Inter Milan Football Academy, Abu Dhabi

Inter Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City and StreetKings are all globally recognized football brands to have established a presence in the UAE’s capital.

Inter Milan’s youth academy, which takes on kids aged from 9 to 12, is currently into the second year of a two year licensing agreement with Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC). The latter claims the venture has been a huge success with nearly 500 UAE youngsters developing their footballing skills as of 2011 via the academy.

The academy is for both girls and boys.

Aside improving technical skills, the academy aims to improve health and fitness of players, and sees itself playing a role in addressing the UAE’s (and global) youth issue with junk food and over eating and diabetes. However, experts from the Inter Academy visit Abu Dhabi four times a year to equip coaches with the latest technical aspects and techniques of football coaching.

Unlike the Manchester United academy, the Inter Milan operation says it is different in that it involves “more than licensing the brand to a third-party”. Staff and organisation are paid for the Italian champions.

Fees are AED 1,000 for each stage (three stages total), and includes the football kit.

Marco Monti, a 10 year soccer professional with spells at Serie A clubs Lazio and Atlanta and 15 years teaching at the Inter Milan academy in Italy heads up the operation.
