Institute of Applied Technology, Abu Dhabi

The Institute of Applied Technology Abu Dhabi is a government owned secondary school located at Khalifa University campus, Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi campus was originally built on a renovated girl’s school, but in 2012 moved to a new premises and fitted with a number of state-of-the-art facilities.

It has the second female school after Al Ain which was officially launched in 2011. There are currently Grades 9, 10 and 11 students at AUH_G – approximately 700 students in total. It offers core studies for grades 9 and 10 as well as career oriented streams for grade 11. The streams available are: Engineering Science, Information & Communication technology, Applied Engineering, Health and Science technology

The campus prides itself on state of the art equipment and cutting edge technology all dedicated to students’ learning. Each of the above streams is served by a host of equipment and labs. For example, the campus offers for the Applied Technology stream a Hydraulics lab, electrical lab, etc. HST cluster students can take advantage of modern Chemistry and Biology labs.

The institute is part of seven schools throughout the United Arab Emirates which were established to provide post-secondary career-focused Technical Education (CTE) programs to meet the “industrial needs and requirements of the nation”. The school focuses on building to produce “world class technicians, engineers and scientists”.

Applicants must be GCC or UAE nationals. All schools are male only, except the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain branches which have a female campus.

The Abu Dhabi campus has an Olympic size pool, a two-floor cafeteria, an auditorium, lecture halls, labs and workshops installed with the most modern machinery and apparatus. A sprawling library stretches on to two floors.

The Institute of Applied Technology follows an American based curriculum with core subjects English, Science and Mathematics. All subjects apart from Arabic are taught in English through a variety of mediums including E-learning and project based learning.


Age ranges from (13 to 15 years for G9 students), and from (14 to 16 for G10 students) on the first day of classes. To enter students need to have passed eighth grade for G9 students, and ninth grade for G10 students. There is also an entry exam and interview.
