Crescent School Dubai

Crescent School Dubai

Crescent School, also known as Crescent English High School, is an Indian curriculum (CBSE) based school located in Al Qusais, Dubai. It has almost 1500 students on its register, an overwhelming majority of whom come from Indian families. The student body is currently served by just over 60 teachers.

The school teaches students from Kindergarten to 18 years of age. It accepts children from 3 years and above.

In the academic year of 2012 – 2013, the KHDA inspection observed a decline in most aspects of the school’s operations and demoted the school’s ranking to that of Unsatisfactory. A lack of infrastructure of the school was largely to blame for the demotion along with high staff turnover (approximately 35%); difficulty in hiring and retaining educators in senior leadership roles; and an overall deterioration in the curriculum.  An Unsatisfactory rating means the school will be the subject of frequent Follow Through Inspections by the KHDA.

The second and most recent of the Follow Through Reports was issued in February 2014. The school’s ranking remains unchanged because the KHDA’s inspection determined that only 4 of the 7 key recommendations had been met to an Acceptable level.

The weaker features of the school remain teaching and learning (in particular in KG and Primary phases); the lack of appropriate procedures to more accurately identify those students with special educational needs; and inferior leadership capacity and governance.

Following substantial disruption in the school’s senior leadership in the past few years, the principal’s position is now filled by an acting principal who is supported by a coordinator.  In order to improve the overall operation of the school, it is felt that the school requires a clearer vision.  Unfortunately however, this cannot be achieved without the active input of all stakeholders (including parents and the school’s governors) which is presently considered to be lacking.

Of those parents who submitted feedback on the school, almost all are satisfied with the quality of education provided by the school, as are all of the teachers.  However, many parents and students felt that they do not have the opportunity to be involved in the decisions made by the school and that their views are not considered.
