Al Khaleej National School

Al Khaleej National School

Al Khaleej National School is a K-12 co-educational private school located in Al Garhoud, Dubai. The school is popular with Emiratis who currently make up 57% of the student body. The school, established in July 1992, has approximately 2229 students enrolled with separate sections allocated for boys and girls from Grade 5.

The school follows US and UAE (for Arabic, Islamic, and Social Studies) curricula with graduate students receiving the US high school diploma. The school runs regular assessments using American Standardised tests, including the Iowa tests.

The high school is a college-oriented programme and students are graded from A to F in each course. Prior to graduation students are expected to take the MAP, SAT, SAT 1, and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum of 30 Carnegie units or credits must be earned by each student, in order to graduate with a high school diploma from the school.

The school employed 133 teachers, all are qualified with either Diplomas or Bachelor degrees, and 36 teaching assistants. The majority of teachers hold teaching qualifications. In the last year, approximately one quarter of the teachers were new to the school. Most teachers are Arab nationals.

The school is currently ranked Acceptable by the KHDA, Dubai’s education regulator – one of a few schools owned by GEMs Education, that is neither rated Good nor Outstanding. GEMs, one of the UAE’s biggest education providers, in general, does very well with the KHDA inspection process: Of the eleven schools ranked Outstanding in 2011/12 four were GEMs schools. The remainder were almost all ranked Good.

Al Khaleej National School’s key strengths include the progress it has made in Islamic Education and Arabic in the last academic year, and better identification of students with special needs.  To improve the school needs to raise attainment and progress in all key subjects across all phases, increase the level of challenge and
raise expectations in lessons, encourage more collaboration and interaction within lessons, and provide more, and better, formal feedback.;

Facilities at the school available for students include a library, science and computer laboratories, media rooms, reading areas, music rooms, on-campus mosques, a football pitch, swimming pool, gymnasium and canteen.

Fees are at the affordable end, starting at just under 13,000 AED and rising to 25,000 by Grade 12. Full details below.
