What qualities and characteristics would you say define your school?
Our school is quite unique for Dubai as it is a relatively small, family-feel orientated school within one of the most popular residential, expat communities. Our children will have direct access to the local secondary school, The English College for which the Year 6 students will be carefully prepared through a well planned transition programme. The children will be provided with a range of learning opportunities which challenge their thinking. Through the learning process children become increasingly more resourceful and resilient working both independently and within teams to achieve success.

How many nationalities are represented in your school?

Are there high proportions of a particular nationality?
Significantly British. We have a small number of students from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, France, USA, Italy, Sudan, Russia, etc

What is the teacher: student ratio in your school?
The teacher:student ratio will not rise above 1:20 (it is currently a maximum of 1:11)

How does the school promote healthy lifestyles?
The school believes that healthy lifestyle covers a much wider area than food. As a result the school will implement a Healthy Lifestyle Policy which links food and nutrition with exercise. This will be taught through the PSCHE programme for all years at the appropriate level (see website for policy).


It is the aim of the School is to help young people to make informed choices about what they eat and drink, and help them to improve their health and fitness by adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle. In order for us all to meet our full potential we need to be healthy and fit-physically, mentally and socially. This policy states the ways in which our school community supports pupils and staff to develop the skills and attitudes that will help them make informed healthy choices both in and out of School.

Physical education and sport is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle?
All children will take regular exercise through their Physical Education lessons. There will be 2 lessons each week which will include a range of different sporting activities, including swimming lessons in our own swimming pool.

How do you promote healthy eating?
Parents will be asked to provide healthy packed lunches for their children. Guidance on healthy options for packed lunches will be communicated to parents at induction meetings at the beginning of the school year, highlighting the Ministry of Health requirements.

What is the starting and finishing time of your school day?
School opens at 7.30am and the school day finishes at 2.50pm for FS2 to Y6 And for FS1 7.30am until 12.30pm

We have high expectations of excellent behavior for learning. Children have the right to feel safe in a positive learning environment. Further details are contained in our ‘Behaviour for Learning Policy’ (see website). The whole school community will promote positive attitudes to learning and very good behaviour so that we create a calm, purposeful and safe place to learn. To achieve this, the children will know that their very good attitude to learning will be rewarded.

How does your school differentiate learning?
As the children are learning, the teachers and Teaching Assistants make their on-going assessments of the progress each child is making. The learning will be planned and adjusted according to this progress and the individual child’s achievement. Each child will be appropriately supported and challenged in their learning.

Do you develop independent learning through homework and, if so, what are your recommendations regarding this, particularly time spent on homework?
The home learning strategy is designed to create independent and reflective thinkers and ensure that our children take responsibility for their learning. For children in Foundation Stage we ask that parents and family members read books together. When out and about it is fun for parents to count various things they can see around them. Talking with children regularly enables young children to develop a good vocabulary.

For children in Key Stage one we wish children to further develop their literacy and numeracy skills: reading skills improve through sharing books with parents and family members; to practise the alphabet letter names and sounds; to continue learning the high frequency words; to practise counting and recognising the numerical value and the written word for each number (e.g. 1-20 initially, moving onto 1-100), becoming familiar with money and learning their multiplication tables.

Home Learning tasks in Key Stage 2 are more formal and will consist of English and Mathematics on a weekly basis, together with some topic and science work. Again, it is important for children to continue to read regularly to their parents and for the parents to ask their children questions to check their understanding.

How do you feedback progress and attainment to students and parents?
Children will receive both verbal and written feedback on their progress in all areas of the curriculum on a regular basis. Parents will see how their child is rewarded for their achievement through individual certificates, stickers/stars, merits, house points, etc.

How often is the more formal feedback such as reports and parent/teacher meetings?
There will be a summary report and at the end the autumn and spring terms and a written, more detailed Report for parents in June.

The school will offer a ‘Meet the Teacher’ meeting which will be held after school in October. The staff will provide an overview of the academic year and offer an opportunity for parents to ask questions.

Is Arabic taught as both a first language and second language in your school?

Do you offer EAL or TEFL support for those students where English is not their first language?
There will be Support provided by both teachers and Teaching Assistants at various times throughout each week, during each term where children for whom English is not their first language will have language building workshops.

Is Islamic Education/Studies for the Arab Muslim students delivered in Arabic for them?

Not all schools are staffed or resourced to offer learning support to those children with either moderate or significant learning needs. To what level can you offer support for those with learning differences?
Inclusion for children with additional learning needs through staff managing an extended differentiation and a variety of specific, targeted intervention programmes

Do you have a learning support team in your school?

How do you support gifted, able and talented students?
Through a variety of enrichment activities in addition to day to day enhanced differentiated learning activities.

Does your school have particular expertise in dealing with a specific learning need such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, aspergers syndrome and so forth?
Yes, staff aim to more specifically differentiate the learning to enhance studies through early identification of any specific, additional needs a child may have.

Kindly provide details on the support for specific learning needs your school provides?
This will vary according to the individual needs of the child, for example if a child with dyslexia benefits from the use of a particular colour of paper when reading and writing, then this will be provided as their main exercise book for their work in English.

Does your school have an educational psychologist or access to one to assess and support those youngsters with more challenging learning and emotional needs?

Does you school offer activities to students from other schools after school hours?
Yes, extra curricular activities provided by staff which will vary from term to term. In addition to these, we have The Star Club which is run by an independent provider (fee paying).

Can you provide details and/or direct us to the latest programmes on your Web site?
Further details will be on the website at the end of August: the Star club will run daily from 12.30pm for FS1 and FS2 then from 2.50pm to 5pm for Year 1 to Yr 6
