ADEC 2015/16 Inspection Cycle: Movers & Shakers

ADEC 2015/16 Inspection Cycle: Movers & Shakers

This week ADEC released the final batch of 42 inspection reports for 2015/16.

The new release brings the total schools inspected during the 2015/16 inspection cycle to 83.

In total, just over 37 percent of the schools inspected this cycle were rated Good or above, 33.7 percent were rated Acceptable and 29 percent Weak or lower.

Interestingly, the new reports did not include any further Outstanding schools, so the total Outstanding schools for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi remains at three, these are: Aldar Academies UK curriculum schools Al Muna Primary School and Al Bateen Secondary/Al Mushrif Private School, plus Taaleem’s IB curriculum- Al Raha International School.

In the new, ‘Very Good’ category ten schools made the grade in 2015/16. Al Ain International Private School, Repton Foundation School and Sheikh Zayed Academy for Girls, all achieved a Very Good rating on their first inspection.

Other Very Good schools were: Al Yasmina Private School, Gems American Academy, (which moved up from B5 in the previous inspection), the Japanese School Of Abu Dhabi, Pearl Primary School, Merryland International School  and The American International School Abu Dhabi, and The British International School of Abu Dhabi, both of which moved up from previous B4 ratings.

Eighteen schools were rated Good by ADEC this year with significant movers being: the previously unrated new schools- Rawafed Private School and Adnoc School Sas Al Nakl, which both received a Good rating during their inaugural inspections.

Al Rabeeh Private School, Emirates National School MBZ, Sunrise International Private School and Al Ain American Private School- all were rated Good in 2015/16- up from previously low C6 ratings.

Worryingly, Abu Dhabi still has 24 schools rated Weak and/or Very Weak and a further 28 rated only Acceptable.

Aldar Academies Group continues to perform exceedingly well with Al Muna Primary School, Al Bateen Secondary/Al Mushrif Private School both rated Outstanding. While Al Ain International Private School, Al Yasmina School and The Pearl Primary School, were all rated Very Good during the 2015/16 cycle.

GEMS also did well this year with two schools inspected GEMS American Academy scoring a Very Good rating and GEMS Cambridge International School securing a Good.
