CBSE Exams & New Academic Year To Be Delayed

It was announced today that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations in the UAE will be delayed by one week.

The CBSE Grade 10 and 12 examinations to be held from 1st March 2017 will now be moved due to elections in five Indian states.

Previously,  the Grade 10 exams were planned to start on 1st March, however, the new UAE dates have been confirmed between the 9th of March and the 10th of April.

The Grade 12 results were also scheduled to commence from 1st  March, however, they will now also start on the 9th March and run until the 29th April 2017.

This will result in a delay of six to 10 days for Grade 10 students moving up to Grade 11, as students can not commence the new academic year until sometime after the final exam on the 9th April.

According to the Gulf News, teachers in the UAE are concerned by the changes. They told the publication the delay of six to 10 working days will affect the teaching of the CBSE curriculum for the following academic year.

Speaking to the publication, Rashmi Nandkeolyar, principal of Delhi Private School in Dubai, said the school was expecting to have to make adjustments to manage the situation. “Sometimes they may have to hold extra classes.”
