2016 QS World Uni Rankings Released

The QS University rankings have been released for 2016 and once again the US tops the tables.

In first place, for the fourth consecutive year is The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), second place went to Stanford University and Harvard took the third spot.

Cambridge slipped a rank from third in 2015 to fourth this year with Oxford remaining in sixth place for another year.

The seventh and ninth spots also went to the UK with the University College London and Imperial College London placed respectively.

The highest continental European university was ETH Zurich Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in 8th place, followed by Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) ranked 14th.

Asia’s highest universities were both in Singapore with National University of Singapore (NUS) in 12th place and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) ranked 13th.

The Arab Region was once again represented in 2016, with the top three coming from Saudi and Lebanon. King Fhad University of Petroleum and Minerals came in 216th place place with The American University of Beruit in 250th and third place another Saudi institution King Saud University 253rd.

In total, six United Arab Emirates institutions featured within the QS World University Rankings 2015/16, and a further seven were included in the regional QS University Rankings: Arab Region.

The highest ranked UAE university in the Arab Region was The American University of Sharjah (AUS) which ranked seventh and 411-420 in the global rankings.

The United Arab Emirates University was placed in the 421-430 band of the global rankings and came in sixth in the Arab rankings.

The other UAE universities to make the Arab Region rankings were the: University of Sharjah which came in 19th place, Zayed University in 20th place, the American University of Dubai in 23rd, Khalifa University 25th and Abu Dhabi University 29th.
